1 person dead, 21 Hurt in Mishap near West Point Coaching Website
Washington (CNN)A West Point cadet was killed Thursday in a vehicle accident near an academy training website, and 19 additional cadets and two soldiers were hurt, ” the academy said.
Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, the superintendent of the US Military Academy in West Point, stated in a news conference that the harms from the rollover accident aren’t thought to be life-threatening.
Williams stated he had been not able to immediately provide details regarding the origin of the collision, citing the continuing investigation, which the title of the deceased cadet wouldn’t be published until his family had been advised.
“Now was a dreadful day for the West Point community and our United States Army,” Williams stated.
The academy sooner Thursday stated 20 cadets were hurt, but a spokesman, Lt. Col. Christopher Ophardt, stated in the news conference that the deceased cadet was initially included one of those hurt.

New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement that he had been guiding New York’s Office of Emergency Management”to supply any tools required” to help subsequent to the crash.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, we pray for a quick recovery for all those concerned and we share in the sorrow experienced with their own loved ones through this extremely tough period,” Cuomo’s announcement said.

Marks, an alumnus of West Point, stated that these are”regular” exercises performed normally during what’s the summertime following cadets’ first year. Marks said the cadets have been”subjected to how Army works at small-unit degree squads” and learn about”team building” and find out”human skills as group leader”
Marks stated while he didn’t understand the conditions that resulted in the specific mishap, he said the Army could”get its arms about it and instate policies” to guarantee this didn’t happen again.
Though the US appears at winding down different combat operations abroad, the army was grappling with how to stop deadly training episodes both in home and overseas.
Between 2006 and 2018, 31.9percent of active duty military deaths were caused by injuries, according to a congressional report. Only 16.3percent of service members who perished during that timespan were killed in action.
This past year, a spate of non-combat army aircraft crashes prompted House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, to state the”willingness of the army is in a crisis stage.”
Among the latest accidents happened in March, when two Marine pilots died in a helicopter accident near Yuma, Arizonaduring a routine training exercise.
